Turnitin
Introduction
Turnitin is a plagiarisim-detection tool available within Canvas Assignments. Instructors can enable Turnitin to generate Similarity Reports, which highlight matched text and provide insights into student writing. No separate login to Turnitin.com is required for most workflows.

Similarity Reports
Turnitin highlights matched text, organizes sources, and provides filters for:
- Bibliography exclusions
- Quotation exclusions
- Small match thresholds
Supported Files
- Microsoft Word (.doc, .docx)
- Text (.txt)
- Rich Text (.rtf)
- HTML
Integrated Canvas SpeedGrader Workflow
Similarity Scores and reports appear directly in SpeedGrader beside the submission.

Instructions
Create or Edit a Canvas Assignment
- Navigate to Assignments in your Canvas course.
- Select + Assignment or open an existing assignment to edit.
Configure Submission Type
Under Submission Type, choose:
- Online
- File Uploads (and/or Text Entry if needed)
Enable Turnitin
Scroll to Plagiarism Review → select Turnitin.
You’ll see configurable options such as:
- Similarity Report visibility for students
- Repository storage options
- Exclusion settings (quotes, bibliography, small matches)

Save and Publish

Viewing Similarity Reports
Reports appear:
- In the SpeedGrader sidebar
- On the assignment submission page
