Learning Management System

Blackboard Learn is UIC's LMS for instruction

A learning management system is a web application that allows the creation, administration, tracking, and delivery of digital content via course sites. Blackboard Learn can be used in three main ways:

  1. for the enhancement of face-to-face instruction,
  2. as an important component of content delivery for blended courses, and
  3. as a core element delivering and assessing learning in online courses.

Blackboard Learn offers two course views: Original and Ultra. UIC instructors can select the course view that best fits their needs. Instructors will see their Blackboard course sites 90 days prior to the start of every semester. Blackboard course sites are created for most CRN-related courses, as reflected in the course catalog. Students will be added to course sites two weeks before the start of the semester. Blackboard course sites are made unavailable to students by default, and instructors determine when to make their courses available to their students.

Blackboard courses that are over 3 years old are flagged for archival (SUYY) and then archived by default every June 1. Once a course is archived, the content is no longer available for instructors.
